Moving into debt ‘advice’ seems increasingly popular

Recently Google have clamped down on “fake” debt adverts and as of 1st November, Google amended their advertising rules so all debt advice organisations had to either be authorized by the FCA or have regulated Insolvency Practitioner status.

Therefore the Moneycheats project decided to conduct a brief search to see if such adverts have now disappeared or whether firms are ignoring the new rules.

1. National Debt Service

Below we have an advert for National Debt Service Ltd who state they are registered with the ICO but not the FCA but do ‘work with’ companies licensed by the IPA.

More confusingly, the website also contains the logos of the University of Brisol, Ofqal and the Samaritians.

The company registration number is actually for Debt Support Centre Ltd whose directors also run the CMC, Belvadere Ltd and Bridgewater Support Solutions who recently wound down its CMC activity.

2. Citizens Debt Advice

Citizens Debt Advice is another interesting one which offers help via IVA’s, bankruptcy or debt management plans. The company is a trading style of Debt Free Advice Ltd – who dissolved in June this year!Citizens Debt Advice is another interesting one which offers help via IVA’s, bankruptcy or debt management plans. 3. Citizens.Advice –Finances

This website is provided by Advice Finances Ltd and does not provide advice but does ‘introduce people struggling with debt to a carefully selected debt management organisation’.

Advice Finances Ltd are an FCA approved appointed representative for Debt Help Ltd[1]so does this mean they can advertise on Google???

4. IVA Advisory Centre

The IVA Advisory Centre is the first paid for advert when a google search of ‘debt advice’ is conducted. The IVA Advisory Centre are a trading style of Astute Finance Ltd, a Manchester based company who set up in April 2018 and are not registered on the FCA register.

There also appears to be no reference to a licensed IVA practitioner status although the website does state “90% debt write off is based upon the performance of IVAs administered by our affiliate company, with whom we jointly nominate IVAs.”

Who are the affiliate company??
