Just what is going on at Barings Solicitors?
In March 2019, the FCA issued a final notice to The Carphone Warehouse and fined them £29,107,600 for failings that led to the mis-selling of ’Geek Squad’, a mobile phone insurance and technical support product. As a result, Barings Solicitors, who are regulated by the SRA, set up a dedicated email address offering a ‘no win no fee’ service to clients wishing to make a claim against Carphone Warehouse. Fees for the service are 35% + VAT of the total compensation amount.
However, it may be that the law firm has taken on more that it can handle as the number of negative reviews on Trust Pilot have mounted up over the last few months, with many claiming delays in receiving payment and a lack of communication. The last issue is not helped by the fact that Barings were initially offering live web chat, phone number and email address to customers but have now dwindled this down to using the reviewer contact service on Trust Pilot.
As at 5th November, the last positive review was an invited one and was published on 12th October but since then there have been a significant number of negative experiences.
One of the general complaints is the lack of communication provided by Barings to their clients. On the 5th October, the law firm left a response and provided an email and phone number as shown below:-
However by the 26th October, it is reported by some reviewers that the phone line is not answered, while Barings seem to be only offering an email address in their responses:
Fast forward a week and Barings are advising customers to use the find reviewer request instead:-
One other review does describe a conversation with someone at Barings who advised they were dealing with 10,000 claims so it may be that they are just inundated!
Yet communication isn’t the only issue as there are many customers concerned about Barings request to send screen shots of ID in order to gain their refund
